SQZ Compression Library
library is an ultra fast, robust, data compressor and
decompressor. The SQZ library was designed to optimize compression
speed for applications that process large amounts of data.
Applications may improve storage costs and network bandwidth utilization
by a factor of 2x-4x by using data-compression. Most compression
algorithms are designed to optimize compression-ratio and not speed.
As a result, it is impractical to compress terabytes (even gigabytes) of
data using the popular algorithms (e.g. gzip, bzip) because they are
too slow. SQZ on the other hand is optimized for performance and is
large commercial networks by several
several storage-management vendors.
ratio is about 2.5:1 for a mix of ASCII and binary files, and is similar
to the compression-ratio of the better compression algorithms. SQZ is much faster. For example, SQZ compression and
decompression speeds are 4.6 and 3.5 times faster than Unix-compress,
(3-4 times faster than standard compression algorithms)
